Beaconsfield Dental

Smart building design, with native flora and fauna adorned rainwater tanks, environmentally minded internal processes and routine environmental advocacy – Beaconsfield Dental’s commitment to sustainability deserves more than a little plaque.

Onsite, their smartly designed building includes 144 solar panels which have generated over 226 megawatts of electricity in 8.5 years (saving almost 300,000kg of CO2), a large 17,000 litre rainwater tank which supplies the toilets and garden – and is beautifully adorned with the Victorian flora and fauna emblems, double glazed windows, solar hot water, an electric car charger, energy saving lighting and an indigenous garden with edible plants.

Complementing their building’s smart features, the team have also embedded sustainability into their day-to-day practices – even starting during their induction for new team members. They regularly recycle as much as possible, including old computers, polystyrene, soft plastics, phones and batteries and have ten compost bins onsite which hold shredded paper as well as garden waste.

Impressively, Dr Panjkov also advocates environmental awareness and sustainability to local associations and business associates, and is involved in societies preserving the endangered Helmeted Honeyeater and Leadbeater’s Possum, and one of Australia’s unique and favourite native animals, wombats.

Beaconsfield Dental also seek to partner with local businesses over those which are further afield where possible.

Locally based since their establishment in 1988, Beaconsfield Dental are a firm favourite among local patients and businesses, which has been a key element of their continued growth and success. Currently, they are enjoying their best results to date and with regular revision of their business’ goals, it seems they are seeking loftier heights still.

Despite their success, they are not without their challenges or situations requiring creative solutions. Like many other businesses, they experienced a sharp contraction during the Covid-19 pandemic and again like many others, are continuing to experience staffing challenges to cater to the growing list of patients who may have missed out on care during this period.

Throughout this busy time, their constant star has been working hand-in-hand with their team members to ensure that the business can operate at its highest capacity, while providing their patients with top-level care and allowing their busy staff members to take much needed breaks.

A long-standing winner of the Sustainability Award category, dating back to when the awards were held jointly with Cardinia Shire Council, their efforts to support the environment through their own actions, as well as advocating their message of sustainability to others is outstanding.
