Casey's business community reflects confidence and a hunger for growth

The recently conducted Business Insights Survey has provided us with a wealth of knowledge about the vibrant and diverse business landscape within the City of Casey. With participation from various industries, including construction and health and human services, the survey has shed light on the challenges and opportunities faced by local businesses.

Snapshot of industry diversity and characteristics
The survey showcased the rich diversity of businesses operating within the City of Casey. The highest representation came from the construction sector (9%), closely followed by health and human services (8.3%). This diverse mix indicates a healthy balance of industries, contributing to the economic growth and vitality of the region.

Interestingly, one-third of businesses reported operating from home, highlighting the prevalence of home-based enterprises. Furthermore, a significant majority (65%) have been in operation for five years or less, reflecting a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and the potential for further growth and innovation.

Multicultural backgrounds and confidence in growth
Based on the survey responses, 64% of businesses in Casey have a multicultural background. This cultural diversity brings a multitude of perspectives and experiences, fostering innovation and resilience within the local business community.

Additionally, the survey revealed that 39% of businesses are ready to expand or relocate, indicating a high level of confidence in their operations and the potential for growth. This optimistic outlook bodes well for Casey's economic development, as it signifies a robust and thriving business ecosystem.

Challenges and opportunities
Among the challenges reported by respondents, rising costs emerged as the primary constraint to growth, with 21% citing it as their main concern. This highlights the need for strategies and support mechanisms to mitigate escalating expenses and enable sustainable growth for local businesses.

An intriguing finding was that 62% of businesses admitted to having little to no understanding of the circular economy. This emphasises the importance of education and awareness initiatives to promote sustainable practices and maximise resource efficiency within the business community.

Innovation and collaboration
Over 55% of survey participants reported undertaking innovative practices within their businesses, demonstrating an inherent spirit of creativity and adaptability. Additionally, 35% expressed a desire to learn more about innovation, underscoring the potential for further growth and advancement within the local economy.

The survey also revealed a strong demand for enhanced marketing opportunities and increased business-to-business interaction. This indicates a desire for networking and collaboration, emphasising the importance of fostering platforms and initiatives that facilitate meaningful connections within the business community.

Interaction with Council
The survey revealed that 24% businesses reported no interaction with the City of Casey, while 42% expressed dissatisfaction or slight satisfaction with the city's services. Council has noted the significance of continuously improving communication and support channels to ensure the needs and expectations of local businesses are met effectively.
