Coolon LED Lighting

With the weighty vision of reviving and improve Australia’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, it’s no surprise that Coolon embraced the challenges thrown by the pandemic and quintuple’d-down with five times the number of projects to emerge brighter than ever before.

That’s right, during the pandemic when restrictions on people and product movements were among the tightest they had ever been in this country, Coolon completed five times the number of projects and actually grew.

They attribute this growth to their renewed investment into research and development, which recently helped them to launch a new generation of smart lights which mesh together to form wireless networks to enable effortless digitisation of industrial sites – including international mine sites, which are located in some of the world’s most hostile conditions.

These lights also serve as a platform to enable multiple industrial applications and IoT services, including asset tracking to allow site managers to instantly locate a tagged item anywhere on site with relative precision.

Currently they are also developing a cloud platform for lighting control/maintenance and IoT device management which provides a backbone for thousands of emerging IoT-dependent services and technologies, such as allowing each luminaire continuously detecting and reporting on surrounding activity or environmental changes. Currently, this is used in the Northern Territory’s largest gold mine to alert workers of extreme weather conditions, alongside lighting the site itself.

This project has led to various state, national and industry awards.

This research and development also led them to become more self-reliant, which was a necessity when critical components like semiconductor components became near impossible to source.

Alongside their investment in research and development, they credit implementing flexible working arrangements and adopting online communication which helped to increase collaboration.

Reviewing their incredible progess over an incredibly difficult period, which is ongoing for many industries requiring products from international locations, Coolon’s work to redefine the market by developing game-changing technologies have certainly ensured their own future success and helped to pave the way for other Australian manufacturers.
